Actually I do know it's Veteran's Day, but growing up with a grandmother who witnessed WWI, and referred to 11/11 as Armistice Day, it's hard to separate the two terms. My wonderful father volunteered for the Navy for WWII, he served on a troop transport ship in the Pacific. He was called up for Korea (we believe it was a mistake - the Navy was actually looking for his younger brother) and he served (not sure where at first), but finished out in the Mediterranean (what the heck? lol).
My nephew joined right after high school. Mostly because it was the smart thing to do. He put in in his five years and was honorably discharged (with the $$ for college in hand lol).
My father-in-law joined the army right before Korea, so he ended up there for quite a long time. He made many good friends, has many horrible stories, but he's still proud of what he did. He was still in the army when Vietnam started, and almost got sent there too if it weren't for his flying skills. The CIA intervened, got his orders cancelled and sent him to Laos to fly for his tour.
I can't help but think of family today. My father is long gone, and so are his stories of serving, I don't get to see my nephew enough as he lives 1100 miles away, but my father-in-law is here and is always willing to regale us with a tale or two from his tour in Korea.
So here's to all the veterans - past, present and future- thank you!!
I scrapped a bit this week with a couple of CT kits. Don't forget the Pick N' Mix kits are on sale only until the 15th!

Have a great week and don't forget to thank a veteran today! TTFN!!
